The Larson Electronics WAL-SL-51-PAR38-LED-12.4 Temporary Tunnel LED Lighting String Light System is designed for high output illumination and daisy chain connections across a total length of 510` away from the power source. The 25 watt PAR38 LED lamps on this work site light set provide more and higher quality light than 300 watt rough service lights while creating less heat and using less power. This LED light stringer operates on 277V AC and provides operators with a temporary work light solution for tunnels and underpasses up to 2,000` in length.
This temporary tunnel string light consists of 51 industrial grade PAR38 LED lamps with 10` of 12/4 SJTW cable between each unit, stretching a total of 510` in length. This temporary LED string light is connected to a 277V power source via an integrated 5` line-in cable. Each globe light is equipped with a high output LED PAR38 bulb which delivers more light output than 300 watt rough service bulbs and 150 watt PAR38 halogen lamps. The 25 watt LED bulb draws less than 10% the electrical power of a standard 300 watt bulb and less than 20% of standard 150 watt PAR38 lamps, making it suitable for tunnel and temporary lighting applications where long spans are required. Each LED light screws into a molded E26 lamp socket.
Fifty-one high output PAR38 style LED lamps producing 2,500 lumens per lamp provide a total of 127,500 lumens of bright white illumination. Each lamp housing is constructed from light weight aluminum, and fitted with an impact and shatter resistant polycarbonate diffuser. These LED light bulbs provide additional safety measures and time savings, given the low heat production and that it does not require replacing for 50,000 hours. Since the LED bulb uses solid state technology, the vibration (dropping, etc.) that degrades conventional incandescent bulbs is not an issue with these LED bulbs.

Unlike the glass tube design of traditional fluorescent lamps, these LED lamps have no filaments or fragile housings to break during operation. Instead of using a combination of gases to produce light, light emitting diodes (LEDs) use semi-conductive materials that illuminate when electric current is applied, emitting light. With LED lights, there is no warm up time or cool down time before re-striking and they provide instant illumination when powered on, adding to the reliability of LED technology. By nature, LED light sources run significantly cooler than fluorescent lamps, reducing the chance of accidental burns and increased temperatures due to heat emissions. This solid state design of light emitting diodes provides a more reliable, stable, durable, and energy efficient light source over traditional fluorescent lighting.
Safety within the workplace is another benefit of LED work lights and temporary lighting. All light sources produce heat. With traditional work lamps, such as incandescent and halogen light sources, the lamp reaches high surface temperatures. These surface temperatures introduce a burn risk to anyone that allows prolonged skin contact with the light source, as well as a fire hazard if a flammable material is accidentally set too close to the light source for an extended period of time. While LED fixtures still produce heat, they are designed with heat sinks to properly disperse the heat. Each LED bulb is engineered to disperse and expel this heat quickly and efficiently, keeping the lamp cooler than traditional light sources. This LED work light operates at a lower surface temperature than a comparable model with a traditional light source, and thus does not present a significant burn risk if an operator or bystander accidentally brushes up against an exposed lamp, and reduce the fire hazard should the fixture accidentally come in contact with a flammable material for a short period of time. This significantly increases the safety within the work environment.
Each light has a hook eyelet that allows operators to hang these tasks lights overhead. Utilizing energy efficient LED lamps, operators are able to provide more light coverage from the same amp draw, or lower the amp draw using the same amount of LED lamps as incandescent, compact fluorescent, or halogen lamps. Each LED trouble light has an effective range that approximately covers a 10-12` radius with 20-30 foot candles of light when mounted at 10-15` above the work environment. Unlike fragile incandescent and compact fluorescent lamps that are made from glass, these LED bulbs are extremely durable and can live up to the abuse of harsh working conditions. With a lamp life of 50,000 hours, operators are not constantly having to replace burnt out or broken lamps, reducing down time and lowering the amount of spare lamps required at the job site.
Multiple stringer sections can be daisy chained together via 5` whips terminated in twist lock connectors, with a maximum of four stringers daisy chained together. Alternating hots between each daisy chained unit allows these string lights to be connected together, spanning up to 2,040` in length. Previously, it would have been unrealistic to have a complete assembly reaching 510` in length from a single point of power.

This LED string light is capable of saving several thousands in energy consumption alone over the course of a year. When compared to incandescent and halogen temporary lighting, this LED string light has the potential to save upwards of $7,000 per year in energy savings only, not including maintainer and labor savings over traditional light sources. This unit provides a return on investment in a very short period of time, as short as a year and a half (depending on days and hours the unit is in use).

Please note: This string light is not capable of supporting 300 nor 150 watt lamps for a single stringer nor multiple stringers due to cable restriction and overloading the cable. These comparison charts are for references only. To be able to achieve the same results with traditional light sources, higher amp capacity cable would be required or shorter runs per string light assembly. To be able to achieve the same distance, multiple power sources would be required for the total length of the area that requires being illuminated.
Also note that for incandescent and halogen lamps, due to voltage loss over distance, the light from start to end of the single string light, with the lamps at the tail end of the stringer being nearly half the light output as the ones at the head end of the string light by the power source. For compact fluorescent lamps, this would require bulbs with internal ballasts that are universal voltage and capable of auto sensing voltage and adjusting accordingly. Otherwise the lamps will stop operating properly or fail prematurely after a certain distance due to voltage drop
The LED string lights from Larson Electronics have been designed to overcome the above difficulties and faults with traditional lighting. This allows operators to run a single strand of string lights within the work area and span long distances from a single power source and work around voltage drop without sacrificing light output. This feat would not be possible with above traditional light sources without increasing cable size, weight of the unit, number of power sources required to span the same distance, while providing more light output within the work space.
These LED lamps are suitable for wet areas, extremely long lived, resistant to damage from impacts and vibrations, and consume far less energy than standard lamps. This tunnel string light is configured to operate with 277 volt electrical current. The LED lamps provide more and better quality illumination than 300 watt incandescent and 150 watt halogen string lights without the high heat and fragile glass construction of traditional lamps. With the low energy requirements of LED lamps, mile long assembly units are now physically possible.

Larson product return policy Every order is tested prior to shipping. The product is tested before it is put into the shipping box, crate, pallet, etc. Larson take pictures and videos of every product for every order being shipped, and store these pictures and videos with the order number in our system. Because of the complexity of some of our products, we have a very limited return policy.
For safety reasons, we do not accept returns on any hazardous location, explosion proof or intrinsically safe products. Once these products leave the factory, we cannot be sure what happens to them. We must re-build and re-certify the units to specification to ensure that the next customer receives an item that is safe to use. This is cost prohibitive. For that reason, we do not accept returns on classified products. We do not accept returns on transformers, phase converters, or frequency converters. In order to install one of the aforementioned products, typically customers will modify the product (i.e. penetrate the housing to make connections, punch out knockouts, remove or damage tinning on lead wires during installation). Because we video test every unit before it ships to ensure the unit operates as described, we know when they leave here the units are operationally functional and meet the output voltage when supplied with the input voltage per the product specification. To be clear, we do not accept returns on these items under any circumstances for these reasons.
Products that are not addressed in the above two conditions must be returned in new, unused condition.
Below are some additional considerations:
Electrical/electronic parts are easily damaged by improper installation or testing. Because electronics are very sensitive to voltage overloads, it does not take much of a voltage spike to ruin a component. Because of this risk, all electrical products returned will undergo electrical testing and assessed a testing fee. This fee will be subtracted from the final return value.
Consumable style bulbs or lamps are not returnable.
Products that contain emergency backup components are subject to very narrow warranty terms and do not qualify for return. For customer convenience, we engage the battery pack prior to shipping all emergency backup products. Many times, particularly with hazardous location rated products, the battery packs are difficult to access and the customer generally plans to install the units shortly after receipt of the shipment. Battery backup components using older technologies (Nicad, NIMH, SLA, etc) will fail quickly if they do not maintain valid grid tie support. In other words, the batteries must receive a consistent maintained charge to perpetuate long lifespans. Battery backup products that are shelved (not installed) for periods greater than 3 weeks will likely fail and need replacement sooner. This replacement will not be covered under warranty. This can also occur is the units are installed but the grid tie option is not connected correctly. Customers can specify that they do not want the battery pack to be engaged at the time of ordering if they plan to shelve the units for long periods of time prior to installation.
There are many products on the site and not all pictures depict the exact configuration of each product. Many products are custom built and/or built on demand. In some cases, products are designed and not sold immediately and rendering may be used. In all cases, the end product is built to the specification listed and the pictures shown may be close approximations. Pictures are more likely to be close approximations with more complex products, including transformers, power distribution systems, control systems, light tower systems and other highly customizable products. In no way does the approximation validate a potential return. We always build to the specification. If customers have questions, they should ask prior to purchase to clarify.
There are no returns on any medical and/or sanitizing products for obvious safety reasons. This includes PPE (including masks), tests, thermometers, sprayers and UVC lighting of any kind (portable and surface)
Many international orders, specialty orders and other complex build orders require prepayment in advance. This prepayment represents a commitment to the order. Cancelling the order will result in a deduction from the original amount paid if any refund is available, since an investment of time and money is typically required to acquire materials and prepare the order. While not all orders in this category require prepayment, cancellation fees may apply to other build orders as well. The percentage of the deduction is at Larson’s discretion but usually ranges from 30 to 50%.
