' Product Overview '
The Larson Electronics EPL-TX-DC-24X12-20A Explosion Proof DC-to-DC Stepdown Transformer converts 24V DC electrical current to 12V DC at 20 amps maximum, for power applications inside flammable environments. Protected by a NEMA-rated copper-free aluminum enclosure and equipped with flying leads for wiring connections, this 20-amp explosion proof unit takes 24 volts DC and reduces it to 12 volts DC. The EPL-TX-DC-24X12-20A provides a safe and effective way for users to tap into and utilize 24V DC power sources and step down this low voltage current to 12V DC within combustible work sites. This explosion proof unit can be operated with input current of 24V DC and will output 12V DC current to power lights and equipment up to 240 watts and 20 amps at 12V DC. The DC-to-DC converter includes integral short circuit, over voltage and overload protection that will shut down the unit or reduce output in case of faults and overloads to protect the unit and connected equipment from damage. This explosion proof device will limit current when an over current condition is encountered and recovers when the condition is removed. Under short circuit conditions, the transformer will enter hiccup mode and recovers when the fault is removed. Equipped with a 43KHz switching frequency, this unit has a 95% conversion efficiency and is suitable for use with moving LED signs and similar LED equipment. This ATEX/IECEx rated transformer is constructed of copper-free aluminum finished with powder epoxy paint. Protected by two neoprene rubber O-ring gaskets, the ground screws are made out of zinc plated steel with green dye. The explosion proof device is rated NEMA Type 3, 4 and 4X, which is designed to withstand the rigors of demanding environmental and operating conditions, including ingress of moisture, water spray, liquid, oil and dust, while preventing damage from corrosion and external ice formation. Wiring: The explosion proof device is equipped with two 6" wires on the input side and two 6" wires on the output side. All leads are stripped and tinned for equip installation. Mounting: The EPL-TX-DC-24X12-20A can be mounted on surfaces, via 2 mounting holes, or conduits. Operators may access two, 3/4" NPT hubs on the feed-through enclosure, with one 3/4" NPT hub located on the instrument side (front) and one 3/4" NPT hub located on the power side (back). NOTE: In order to obtain the best performance and the longest operational life from these units, it is recommended that you do not exceed 75% of the unit’s output amperage. To determine if this converter suits your desired application, add together the total wattage of the equipment you intend to use with this unit and divide this total by 12 volts to find the total amperage draw that will be placed upon the converter.
