The Larson Electronics SPLED-GL.30004 Solar Powered LED Spotlight is an ideal lighting solution for remote areas and standalone applications where connection to external power is either impractical or unavailable, such as ports, docks and other marine locations. This rechargeable solar powered LED light offers 2,520 lumens of illuminative output and handheld remote control capabilities. The LED lamp features magnetic mounting and is resistant against a wide range of outdoor elements, such as UV light, rough weather and water.
This solar powered LED light is designed for outdoor illumination in remote and marine environments. Powered by four, 12aH sealed lead acid batteries that are recharged by a 30-watt solar panel, light output comes from a 36-watt LED spotlight that produces 2,520 lumens during use. On a full charge, the 12V DC system provides up to 1 hour of continuous operation.
The SPLED-GL.30004 features remote control operation that allows users to rotate the light 370 degrees with a hard stop and to adjust vertical tilt through 135 degrees. Remote operation is provided by one handheld wireless remote controller that operates over a radio frequency of 433 MHz. This remote includes an internal 12 volt battery rated at 1 year of operation and a single red LED to indicate remote control activity. The remote controller has a range of up to 100 feet and will operate through walls, within structures, and in vehicles. The remote is constructed of polycarbonate with rubber push pad buttons for weatherproof durability and can be user programmed to operate one or several lights simultaneously. Remotes are 3 inches long by 2 inches wide by 3/8 inch thick.
The sealed lead acid battery pack is contained within the solar panel, not the light. As with all solar powered equipment, charging time is affected by the amount of available ambient light. When ambient light levels drop below a certain level, such as on cloudy days, the unit will not recharge.
LED Benefits:
Unlike gas burning and arc type lamps that have glass bulbs, LEDs have no filaments or fragile housings to break during operation and/or transportation. Instead of heating a small filament or using a combination of gases to produce light, light emitting diodes (LEDs) use semi-conductive materials that illuminate when electric current is applied, providing instant illumination with no warm up or cool down time before re-striking. Because there is no warm up period, this light can be cycled on and off with no reduction in lamp life.
LED lights run at significantly cooler temperatures than traditional metal halide and high pressure sodium lights and contain no harmful gases, vapors, or mercury, making them both safer and more energy efficient. No extra energy is wasted in cooling enclosed work areas due to external heat emissions from bulb type lights, and the operator risks associated with traditional lighting methods, such as accidental burns and exposure to hazardous substances contained in the glass bulbs, are eliminated. In addition, LEDs are also safer for the environment as they are 100% recyclable, which eliminates the need for costly special disposal services required with traditional gas burning and arc type lamps.
Heat Management:
Heat is the single largest factor in premature LED failure and color shifting. These LED units contain advanced drivers which use pulse width modulation to control heat buildup rather than simple voltage regulators which are typically harsh on sensitive electronics and can contribute to early LED failure. These units automatically sense the temperature of each LED and adjust the energy frequency or "duty cycle" accordingly to maintain heat levels within acceptable ranges. This system in essence flashes current at an extremely fast on and off rate to each LED based upon the LED`s core temperature. This flash rate is too fast to detect with the human eye, but provides precise control of the current flowing to each LED and thus the heat it generates. This allows the LEDs to be driven at up to 100% capacity without overheating or visible loss of light output. The LEDs are always driven at the same voltage but the duty cycle, however, is changed to alter how long the LEDs are actually on or off. The end result is more light with less heat and longer LED life with an average 70% lumen maintenance after 50,000 hours.
Remote Operation:
Remote control functions include on/off, and 4 buttons which control up, down, left and right movement. The light will continue movement as long as the buttons are pressed. Releasing the buttons stops movement and holds the Golight in position. A fast and slow mode button (turtle/hare) controls the speed of the motor while the pan and tilt function buttons are depressed. Holding the button for 12 seconds in fast mode results in a full 370 degree rotation, and 8 seconds for full tilt. Slow mode is used for pinpoint accuracy at distance and is approximately 35 seconds for full rotation and 20 seconds for one full range of tilt.
Durability:
The SPLED-GL.30004 is designed for hunting and demanding outdoor use with a weather resistant housing constructed of high quality ASA Luran thermoplastic that is heat resistant, impact resistant, UV resistant and able to withstand rugged use and abusive conditions. This particular LED spotlight has a durable white finish, making it ideal for docks and buildings where an attractive appearance is desired. Remote movement of this spotlight is provided by an automotive grade internal motor, gear, and transmission assembly that is constructed of LEXAN, brass, and stainless steel to provide rust and corrosion resistance as well as long life and reliable operation.
Mount:
The light is permanently mounted with 4 screws through predrilled holes which secure the light to the mounting surface. A detachable, interlocking stainless steel mounting plate simplifies mounting.
Larson Electronics has further upgraded the options available with this light. A six foot extension cord connects the solar panel to the LED light, allowing the light to be mounted separately from the panel. This means the solar panel can be mounted in direct sunlight while the light is mounted in a workspace. The cord between the light and panel ends in Deutsch connectors, allowing an optional longer extension cord to be attached, increasing the distance the light can be installed from the panel. Optional longer extension cords are available at additional cost. Alternatively, the light can be mounted directly to the panel. Larson Electronics can also configure this light for special requirements including different lights and larger batteries.
Applications:
Marine lighting, ports, docks, ships, remote illumination, boats, loading sites and more.
