The IND-HVAC-DTHG-UVC-R1-SS-36W-1L-120V from Larson Electronics is an Air Duct Disinfection System that works to disinfect air moving through a duct system via germicidal ultraviolet (UV) rays. This unit helps control the spread of airborne cold and flu viruses, as well as other airborne transmitted disease. The anodized aluminum air duct disinfection system features one biax fluorescent UV bulb that produces 12 watts of UVC output at a wavelength of 254nm. A titanium oxide catalyst above the lamp generates hydroxyl, which actively gets rid of bacteria, viruses, odors and harmful contaminants. Considered to be safer than ozone generators, the IND-HVAC-DTHG-UVC-R1-SS-36W-1L-120V is designed to be mounted inside an air duct and operates on 120V AC current.

The IND-HVAC-DTHG-UVC-R1-SS-36W-1L-120V is a powerful sanitation solution for industrial sites and commercial facilities. Equipped with one UVC biax fluorescent lamp, this system offers 12 total watts of UV output at a wavelength of 254nm. The lights have an expected lifespan of 8,000+ hours and emit a flood beam pattern. The IND-HVAC-DTHG-UVC-R1-SS-36W-1L-120V can be used continuously in air ducts such as those found in HVAC systems. Equipped with a a single-ended power source, the 36-watt lamp features a titanium dioxide (TiO2) coated stainless steel mesh. This component serves as a catalyst, which reacts to the UV light during use. The reaction generates hydroxyl molecules that are capable of sanitizing bacteria, viruses, mold, odors, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and contaminants.
Hydroxyl is considered to be more effective and less harmful than ozone for humans. By comparison, ozone is mostly found in the stratosphere approximately 8 miles from the surface. Very little amounts of ozone exist on the ground because such elements are very harmful to humans. Hydroxyl can be found on the surface and does not impose the same hazards and dangers associated with ozone. Such compounds exist naturally in the atmosphere and help get rid of pollutants in the environment. Hydroxyl is more reactive than ozone and is capable of disinfecting a wider range of VOCs, germs and odors. This form of sanitation is also recommended for use with sensitive materials, as well as in occupied areas. Suitable for cleaning ducts, AC coils, HVAC systems and surrounding air, there is no downtime associated with using hydroxyl generators (the area does not need to be aired out or vented for hours after treatment). Sanitizing with hydroxyl generators is most effective when there is high volume of air flow, the environment is humid or filled with moisture and a filter is present to remove or trap oxidized elements.
Operation:
This UV air duct disinfection system projects ultraviolet rays inside the air duct it is mounted in. The air flowing through the duct that passes through the UV rays is then sanitized. Bacteria and viruses present in the air that passes through the UV rays produced by the fixture are destroyed. The air moving through the duct is constantly being purified as it flows through the UV rays and reacts with hydroxyl being produced by the fixture.
Construction:
The enclosure of the IND-HVAC-DTHG-UVC-R1-SS-36W-1L-120V is built from 304 stainless steel. In-Operation and Replace-Lamp indicator lamps allows operators to check the status of the UV bulb without removing the fixture from the air duct or being exposed to harmful UV radiation.
Mounting:
The IND-HVAC-DTHG-UVC-R1-SS-36W-1L-120V is designed to be mounted inside an air duct (we sell adapters for mounting in round ducts separately, at an additional cost). The system is mounted in a partial internal style with the bulb(s) being mounted inside of the air duct and the electronics mounted on the outside of the duct.
Note on Environment
: Sunlight and visible light fixtures do not impact the effectiveness of the disinfecting on this UVC sanitation product. Metal halide, high pressure sodium, fluorescent, and LED light fixtures can be left on. The UV radiation emitted from this product is not disrupted by any type of lighting in the environment. Put simply, NO it DOES NOT need to be dark in the area you plan to disinfect. The UV radiation is harmful to the eyes and skin, and that is why you should not be in the area while it is in operation.
